Mark is an appellate lawyer first. He has litigated over 150 appeals in Oregon, securing significant constitutional, evidentiary, and procedural wins in the appellate courts. He believes that trial is just the beginning of the fight for his clients and their rights.Mark appeals adverse judgments and criminal convictions for his clients, and he defends their trial court victories. Whether in the Oregon Court of Appeals, Oregon Supreme Court, or Ninth Circuit, he helps his clients understand and navigate the unique appellate process. And he leverages his years of experience, knowledge of cutting-edge legal issues, and knack for exhaustive legal research to maximize their chance of winning on appeal.He also maintains a selective criminal defense practice focused on crafting winning motions and creative arguments while protecting his clients' constitutional rights and making a record for appeal. Mark also assists other trial attorneys in complex cases by researching and drafting persuasive pleadings and serving as embedded appellate counsel.Prior to founding North Current Legal with Eric Brickenstein in 2025, Mark clerked at the Oregon Court of Appeals for the Honorable Rebecca Duncan, and he worked for almost a decade as an appellate public defender and a private litigator.Education
